for two pianos

fp Sam Peña Alvarez + Jack Tait Westwell | Milton Court Concert Hall | 22nd September 2017

duration ca. 3'30

“This piece was written after pondering how to make two pianos, potentially incredibly similar sounding instruments, do something which one piano, or a piano duet on one could not on its own.
Therefore, each player plays almost exactly the same notes, the only difference being the second pianist has no score, and navigates by ear, immediately copying the movement and notes of the first. Enhanced by quietly singing into the instruments, the result is a loose and resonant merging of spontaneity. The name is given as the piece was written as a response to Messiaen’s Visions de l’Amen.”
